Jesus flowers

Jesus flowers, originally uploaded by Ron Floyd.

An icon in flowers--this practice takes all day. The towns people of Balsano carefully "paint" these images with flower peddles, bark, dirt, and other natural materials. All this work just so the Bishop with the Blessed Sacrament might walk over these images in flower ruining them. Thus, all the work spent on these icons is totally for the honor of God.

Corpus Christi: Monstrance??

Monstrance??, originally uploaded by Ron Floyd.

This is the first in a series of posts on Corpus Christi. Pictures from the Processions in Orvieto and Balsano are now available on Flickr, just double click on the picture and your browser will take you there.

For the first time in 80 years the Diocese of Orvieto re-introduced this Reliquary/Monstrance Combination carried by Priests, Deacons, and Acolytes. Eight NAC students and priests had the honor of assisting in carrying the Most Blessed Sacrament through the streets of Orvieto

Deus Meus!

As the procession started the clergy and seminarians hung out in the Presbytery. Many took the opportunity to get much closer to the relic of Balsano than the public normally can.

Looking on at the corporal on which out disbelieved Lord shed his blood again I think the seminarians saw how their future lives as priests would be a sharing in the Passion of Christ, which continues today and until the end of the world. However, they also saw the Truth. "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Light," says the Lord. It is in the glory of this Truth that they will find the consolation and strenght needed to always point toward Jesus in a world that wants to follow any other way but THE WAY, cling to any truth but THE TRUTH, and find light in anything BUT GOD, and his Son Jesus Christ.

Ordination

I had the priviledge of attending a classmates ordination to the Deaconate the other day and vesting him in this beautiful dalmatic. It is hard to believe its been 9 months since I was ordained. I feel like I am an old hand at being a deacon, but I gues soon I will be new again!
